In her delightful book Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon, Apfel gives her definition of success: "If you're happy, have found love, are surrounded by good people, doing what you like, and giving back to others, that's SUCCESS. Selling your soul for a buck is not worth the real price you pay - not to me, anyway."
How do you define success? Having a clear image of what success means for us can help us set priorities, determine if our actions are in proper alignment, and inoculate us against the harmful effects of comparing ourselves to others. Maybe your yardstick for success is earning a lot of money, or having enough free time to pursue lots of other interests, or having the time and energy to raise your kids. Whatever your definition, if it feels good to you, consider writing it out and posting it where you can see it.
